All Batiks Shirts are individually handmade,
beginning on 100% cotton white fabric. First
the design is hand drawn with melted wax,
using the original tools for batik called
"tjanting tools." Dyes are then applied
to add color to parts of the design. Upon
drying, the colored areas are waxed over.
Depending on the specific design, these
first few steps may be repeated multiple
times to create the desired effect. Next,
the entire shirt or piece of fabric is submerged
into a "dye bath" anywhere from a few minutes
to many hours, thus creating the overall
background color. Once all the dyeing is
complete, all of the products are washed
before going through a dry cleaning process
to remove the wax. After the wax is removed
the product is put through one last wash
cycle to ensure the finished piece will
not run nor shrink when washed by the customer.
